Factory QC Protocol: What "Pre-Terminated" Actually Means

Not all factory-terminated cables are equal. Our QC protocol has ten checkpoints that separate telecom-grade from commodity-grade:

  1. Raw fiber proof test. Every incoming fiber spool is proof-tested to 100 kpsi before it enters the production line.
  2. Cleaver auto-calibration. Ceramic blades are swapped every 2,000 cleaves; angle deviation must be <0.5°.
  3. Epoxy mix and cure. Two-part heat-cure epoxy, vacuum-degassed, cured in temperature-controlled ovens (+100 °C, 25 min) for consistent ferrule bonding.
  4. Radius-of-curvature control. Polishing fixture maintains 7–25 mm radius window per IEC 61755-3-1.
  5. 3D interferometer scan. Every connector: radius, apex offset, fiber height, and undercut measured. Any out-of-spec unit is scrapped, not reworked.
  6. End-face auto-inspection. 400× digital scope checks for scratches, pits, chips, and contamination. Grade B or better required.
  7. IL/RL bench test. Single-mode: IL ≤0.20 dB, RL ≥50 dB (UPC) / ≥60 dB (APC). Multimode: IL ≤0.30 dB.
  8. Thermal cycling. Sample lots cycled −40 °C → +85 °C, 10 cycles, then re-tested for IL drift. >0.05 dB drift = lot reject.
  9. Tensile and flex. Pre-terminated assemblies pulled to 80% of rated short-term tensile per IEC 60794-1-2-E1.
  10. Final packaging. Each assembly sealed in anti-static bag with desiccant, unique serial barcode, and printed IL/RL report.
