Type A
Straight-Through
Fiber in position 1 ends in position 1 (no flip). Uses an A-to-A patch at one end, or a Type A cassette. Best for simple trunk runs and Base-12 straight mapping.
Type B
Reversed
Fiber in position 1 arrives at position 12. Uses straight A-to-B patch cords with one flipped cassette. The most common modern data-center method.
Type C
Paired Flip
Pairs are flipped (position 1→2). Great for duplex, but not recommended for 8-fiber parallel 40/100G workloads. Use A/B instead.
